ARTIST STATEMENT
My current practice underpins my concept which brings awareness to psoriasis through the use of photography, digital editing, screen printing, and installation. I use a consistent process which I adapt and experiment with to form large scale prints onto panels of fabrics. I particularly focus on forming patterns from my edited photographs of the physical skin condition by mirroring them with the aim to understand the pattern of the condition. When displaying the work, I have been predominantly printing large scale and experimenting with the negotiation between the artwork and the space. Space is something important in my research and practice when it comes to understanding what the work does. Rather than the work having a direct meaning or attempting to bring awareness to a subject, it sits in a state of self-actualisation, allowing it to behave according to the surroundings and unintentional impacts that occur. While my work highlights my concept, it also transforms a space inducing an immersive experience that tanatlises the senses through optical illusion. My work communicates through various channels such as visual appearance (patterns and colours), concepts, and the presence of the work when situated in its space. It holds an accumulation of inconsequential happenings that fuse into a moment which consists of past and present arbitrary elements, with the future indefinitely also contributing to this. I work with tactile materials to highlight how temporary these moments are and the changes can never be predicted.
